El Salvador Moves 400 ‘Very Dangerous’ Gang Members

EL_SALVADOR_c1395298_15425_377Around 400 “very dangerous” known gang members were moved to the feared Izalco prison near the capital of San Salvador on Friday, in an attempt to limit gang activities and violence.

“The prisoner shuffle is part of a series of measures announced by President Salvador Sanchez Ceren to try and combat rising gang violence in the nation. The multiplying violence has included attacks on police and military forces.

March was the deadliest month in a decade, with 841 homicides committed in the nation of six million people.”

Authorities have put together an elite police and military force to help combat the gangs as well.  There is an estimated gang membership of 70,000 people in El Salvador, 10,000 of whom are behind bars.
