Kevin Page – Safe Passage Attorney of the Week

Untitled

In 2007, Kevin graduated from Pace University School of Law where he was on the Dean’s list and won the Best Speaker Award in the Pace Moot Court competition. He is admitted to the Connecticut State Bar, the New York State Bar, the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, and the United States District Court, Eastern District of New York. After graduation, Kevin joined the law firm of O”Connor Redd LLP. Kevin practices mainly insurance defense litigation, but also handles wrongful death suits, product liability claims, premises liability suits, and personal injury claims.

Kevin first became involved with Safe Passage over a year ago, after he went to an immigration CLE where Professor Benson was speaking. Kevin found Professor Benson’s presentation about unaccompanied minors to be inspiring and decided to introduce himself. Professor Benson asked for his business card (surprise!) and assigned him a Safe Passage case shortly after (surprise, surprise!). And just like that, Kevin, who had never taken an immigration class in law school, happily took on his first immigration case!

Kevin is currently representing two juveniles from Haiti in a special immigrant juvenile status claim. After the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Kevin’s clients were sent to Mexico to live with relatives. Two years later, those relatives decided they could not continue to care for Kevin’s clients and they were sent to the United States. The guardianship petition and motion for special findings prepared and filed by Kevin on behalf of his clients were granted last month! Now that they have jumped over the tallest hurdle, Kevin is petitioning for SIJS for both of his clients with USCIS.

The best part of volunteering according to Kevin is fulfilling the promise to himself, one he made years ago, when he vowed to use his law degree to help those who need it most. Since his law school graduation, Kevin has forgotten what the notion of spare time even is – which explains how Kevin became partner at O”Connor Redd LLP in lighting speed!
