New York, NY – Last Friday, April 10, 2015, New York City Council Speaker, Melissa Mark-Viverito spoke about justice for New Yorkers at New York Law School’s 124th City Law Breakfast. The Speaker pledged access to justice for all within this city, and paid special attention to the City Council’s successful efforts to increase funding for legal services and access to justice for New York’s immigrant youth. As the Speaker truthfully noted, New York City has always been a “beacon of hope and optimism,” and as Speaker, she intends to keep it that way.

Today, the Safe Passage Project Staff met with the Speaker to give formal thanks for all of her hard work at striving to keep the paths to justice open for New York’s immigrant youth. With the increased funding provided by the City Council and its partners, the Safe Passage Project has been able to continue to provide legal representation to hundreds of children throughout New York.

The Safe Passage Project gives many thanks to the Speaker and City Council for their generous support and continuous efforts in providing access to legal services to the many immigrant children in need. Due to the City Council’s help, these children now have a bright and hopeful future.
