In Honor of justice AmeriCorps week, we here at Safe Passage Project would like to share some of our photos of the 2015 justice AmeriCorps national training conference in Leesburg, VA. Fellows from around the country attended an conference from November 30th to December 4th, in which they learned about various Immigration issues and were instructed on their duties as justice AmeriCorps fellows at their respective organizations. Safe Passage Project attorneys Desiree Hernandez and Rex Chen presented at the training.
As part of the training, the Department of Justice coordinated with the Executive Office of Immigration Review to bring members of the Office of the Chief Immigration Judge, attorneys from ICE’s Office of Chief Counsel, asylum officers from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to supervise mock exercises of proceedings that the fellows will encounter during their year of service. The event also provided the fellows with an opportunity to network with others in justice AmeriCorps.
Our fellows were excited to begin their new positions with Safe Passage Project and to be apart of the newest AmeriCorps initiative.
