Join Safe Passage Project, a non-profit corporation, in a walk to recognize and remember Refugees in New York.
Who: Everyone is welcome to walk. Individuals, families, and organizations can participate. Click here to sign-up.
What: The United Nations created the International Day of the Refugee and across the world people will be gathering to learn about refugees and to raise awareness and support for vulnerable populations.
When: We recommend that you walk the route between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 – the International Day of the Refugee. The audio tour is self-paced. We estimate will take approximately 1.5 hour to 2 hours depending on how long you stop at each of the historic sites.
This walk, recorded as an audio file and downloadable for any date, will begin in lower Manhattan in Battery Park at historic Castle Clinton, the first immigration inspection in New York. The 1.5 mile walk will include an audio tour highlighting immigration related historic sites and explaining the connection between our immigration history and the current needs of modern refugees.
Safe Passage Project Staff and Supporters will be walking together on June 20th, but the audio recording and walk can be enjoyed any day!

Why: To raise public awareness and funds to support representation of immigrant youth seeking protection.
Safe Passage Project has been recruiting, training, and mentoring pro bono lawyers to aid immigrant youth facing deportation since 2006. Safe Passage Project is now at the NY Immigration Court every week and is helping over 500 youths. Many of these young people have claims based on the International Convention Protecting Refugees and others have claims for child protection under both state and federal law.
