A federal court ruling by Judge James E. Boasberg of Federal District Court for the District of Columbia has ordered the Obama Administration to stop its practice of detaining most women and children who were caught crossing the border illegally whether or not they had applied for asylum in the United States.

Safe Passage Director Lenni Benson says: “The court specifically rejected the government’s assertion that detention was necessary to protect national security.”
