- 18th Street and Mara Salvatrucha, the most prominent gangs in Honduras, have an estimated 36,000 members in Honduras alone, while the police force has around 12,000 members.
- Almost 2/3 of the population of Honduras lives in poverty and at least 1/4 are unemployed.
- Honduras is a staging post for 80% of the cocaine travelling from South America to the United States.
