Together with 28 other Immigrants’ rights groups throughout New York State, Safe Passage signed on to a letter drafted by the New York Civil Liberties Union to the Acting Deputy Commissioner of the New York State Department of Education. The letter calls for amended regulations which will govern the enrollment of children in New York State’s public schools. The regulations in their current form will likely have an unfair and disparate impact on immigrant kids. Safe Passage is proud to stand with our fellow advocates in proposing alternative language for the regulations, in order to ensure that every New York child is able to exercise his or her constitutional right to a public school education.
