On Saturday, December 12th, the Safe Passage hosted its annual Holiday Party for over 70 clients and friends of the project. The Holiday party is a unique opportunity for Safe Passage staff and clients to take a break from the courthouse and enjoy a day of delicious food, crafts, loteria (“similar to bingo”), and a screening of a Holiday movie – this year, Elf. Holiday joy and laughter filled the room. After all the food, fun and games, thanks to generous donations from Mercedes Olivares and Barclays, Emily McKhann, Riverdale Country School, La Casa Azul Books and John Jay College’s¡Adelante!, all Safe Passage clients took home new winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, Spanish language children’s books, school supplies, and all left with giant smiles on their faces. Many clients at the party admitted that this will be their first winter and are very excited to see snow for the first time.
