Learn How to Represent Children Facing Deportation

Free Event

Please join Safe Passage Project for a free training on legal relief available to immigrant children, including Special Immigrant Juvenile Status and asylum.

Due to spiraling violence and instability, thousands of children have fled Central America in recent years and have sought safety in the United States. Upon arrival, they are placed into deportation proceedings but are not appointed a lawyer. If they cannot afford one, they are forced to represent themselves against a judge and a prosecutor, and they may be ordered deported back to danger even if they qualify for legal relief that would keep them safe. Safe Passage Project works with hundreds of volunteer attorneys in New York to provide free legal representation to over 800 immigrant children. Each pro bono attorney receives extensive mentoring from our team of experts throughout the duration of the case.

This training is appropriate for those who are new to immigration and family law, and to those who want a refresher course. The training is free, but pre-registration is required, as space is limited.
