Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (WHEELS) High School students won a $5000 grant on behalf of Safe Passage Project. Yesterday Gui Stampur accepted the $5000 check, thanked the students for their support, and assured them Safe Passage Project would continue to make them proud fighting for the rights of undocumented children. David Lenzner and Anthony Voulgarides, both teachers at WHEELS, helped guide the students through the grant application process and spearheaded this grassroots initiative. At the check presentation ceremony, Mr. Lenzner highlighted Safe Passage Project”s recent successful representation of two WHEELS students and their two younger brothers in Family Court and before United States Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS). Mr. Lenzner said, “thanks to Safe Passage and Mr. Stampur, our students and their brothers – all four of them – now have Green Cards and can chase their dreams in the same way that those born on United States soil can.
